Besides the painfulness of exercise, the biggest pain of swimming is the dry skin and hair. But don’t worry, this is the 21st century and a quick search will result in endless recipes for DIY masks and moisturizers.
With so many options, I was curious about what recipes would actually work. I’m happy with my moisturizers, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about doing it yourself. I can’t be the only one who feels that way, right… Right?!
I already tried the Honey and Epsom Salt face mask, and was pretty impressed. It was a little goopy, but the results justified the means. Now I'm continuing the mission with a new mask. I'm excited to introduce you to the Honey and Aloe Mask. Here are the directions:
- 1 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons aloe
Mix the ingredients together and gently apply the mask to your face. Leave it on for 25 to 30 minutes and then gently rinse it off and pat your skin dry! Do the mask 3-4 times per week to stay fresh.
Let me just say: you're welcome. This mask is only 2 ingredients and (*spoiler alert*) it could be the last mask you'll ever need.
I won't get too deep into the science of the mask, but it's interesting to understand the benefits of each of the two ingredients. Honey is full of antioxidants, so it fights wrinkles and slows aging. It also has antibacterial properties, which means it moisturizes, prevents acne, and purifies pores.
If you think that's impressive, wait to be blown away! Many people know about aloe's ability to ease sunburns, but that's just the beginning of its benefits. The gel is a great non-greasy moisturizer (Bonus tip for women – rub some on before putting on mineral makeup! Bonus tip for men – use it as aftershave!)
Aloe also contains wound healing and anti-inflammatory hormones called Auxin and Gibberellins. These hormones stimulate the growth of skin cells to heal acne and minimize the risk of scarring. But that's not all! The gel also has antioxidants that keep skin firm and young.
Have I convinced you yet? The mask itself is clean and dries quickly, but it never gets uncomfortably stiff. I've already done it 3 times now... In the last 5 days. Seriously, you gotta try it.
